IAGC Scholarship Listing and Application Information

IAGC provides a variety of scholarship and recognition opportunities for parents, educators, students or community members. All scholarship winners are recognized at the annual IAGC Conference and/or Parent Conference.

STUDENT SCHOLARSHIPS

The Carol Morreale Scholarship  (grades K - 8)

DESCRIPTION

This $1,000 award was established in memory of Carol Morreale, an educator, early IAGC member and tireless advocate for gifted children. Funded through memorial donations, this scholarship is given to a student in grade 1 through 8 who has demonstrated excellence in language arts or math. Financial need is a consideration.

Application Deadline: September 8, 2023


CRITERIA

  • A statement (250 word maximum) describing your motivation for seeking this scholarship.
  • A statement of your qualities that make you an advanced, serious and engaged scholar. 
  • Statement of financial need.
  • Three examples of your student work.
  • Two teacher recommendation letters. 
    • These teachers must have taught you in academic classes. 
    • Teachers should comment on your advanced academic performance, scholarship, and engagement in learning.


IAGC Distinguished Student Scholarship (grades 9 - 12)

DESCRIPTION

This scholarship provides up to $1,000 to support a student in grade 9 through 12 in an academic endeavor. Applicants must demonstrate excellence in one or more of the following areas: visual or performing arts, academic achievement or service and leadership. Financial need is a consideration.

  • A statement of excellence in one or more of the following areas:  visual or performing arts, academic achievement or service and leadership.
  • Statement of financial need.
  • Three examples of your student work.

Educator and Community Scholarships

Mary Ann Paradise IAGC Conference Scholarship

DESCRIPTION

This award, named in honor of Mary Ann Paradise long time conference co-chair and IAGC founding member, was established in 1996 to provide financial support for those who wish to enhance their understanding of gifted education. One scholarship is awarded each year to parents, educators or other school staff members who work with gifted children. The award provides a complimentary one-day registration to the IAGC Conference.

CRITERIA

  • Any interested parent, teacher, or other school staff member who works with gifted children is eligible to apply.
  • Statement of Motivation for seeking this scholarship.
  • Statement of financial need.

Ruth Wright Professional Development Scholarship

DESCRIPTION

This award was established in 1996 to provide financial support to educator members of IAGC who currently work in the area of gifted education. The scholarship is named in honor of Ruth Wright, a founding member and first president of IAGC. The award provides a complimentary one-day registration to the IAGC Conference.

CRITERIA

    • Available to IAGC Educator Members only
    • Statement of motivation for attending the upcoming IAGC Conference.
    • Statement of clearly articulated Goal and set of Outcomes for professional development.

Promising Projects Equity Award

DESCRIPTION

This award was established in 2002 by the Illinois Association for Gifted Children to show monetary support for projects created by teachers of gifted children. Eligible projects must be specifically designed with an equity lens in mind and differentiated to meet the needs of underrepresented gifted students. The money may be used to purchase or pay for field trip or project related expenses. One or more awards will be given each year, not to exceed a total dollar amount of $500.

CRITERIA

    • Available to IAGC educator member, currently working in gifted / advanced learner education.
    • Statement of motivation for seeking the scholarship.
    • Statement of how the project supports equity and differentiation to meet the needs of underrepresented gifted students.
    • Two or more examples, models, lesson plan, etc
    • Estimate of project-related expenses.
