    If you are a Gifted Coordinator or work in a gifted program leadership role, please join the IAGC for our Bi-Monthly Virtual Support Meetings in which we provide resources, discussions, and strategies to help teachers work with advanced learners in their classroom.

    Join the IAGC for an In-Person Parent Coffee in Libertyville IL!

    This month will feature IAGC Board Members and presenters Pam Shaw and Sarah Bright as they host the Spring IAGC Parent Coffee and Meet-up to discuss the ongoing needs, challenges, and opportunities for the gifted and talented child.  A brief presentation will be given on the development of executive functioning skills and cognitive skills.

    Plan to Buy Your Own Beverage to support Birdy's Coffee House and then gather in the IAGC section to check in.

    We will share new ideas and information that impacts families with Advanced Learner needs, including the many opportunities that may impact your child's education, relationships, and motivation to develop their gifts and talents!  

    Plan to chat with fellow parents, brainstorm ideas for future meetings, and build community in support of gifted education and education policy.

    2024 IAGC Virtual Leadership Summit

    Unpacking the Accelerated Placement Act:  Policies and Processes to Provide Equitable Opportunities for Advanced Learners

    Join the IAGC for an in-depth discussion and workshop with Regional, District, and School Leaders across the state of Illinois as we examine updated IL State Education Policies regarding gifted programs, accelerated placement, and the application of best practices in advanced learner instruction. 

    Friday May 3, 2024   8:30 am - 2:30 pm  (1 hour lunch break)  Registration CLOSES April 26.

    5 hours PD CREDIT:   Please register with PD Plus before May 3, by logging in to your ELIS account and then sign up for "2024 IAGC Leadership Summit" .  You will also be asked to Sign In / Sign Out on the day of the Summit.

    WHY YOU SHOULD ATTEND:

    • Explore key aspects of the Accelerated Placement Act

    Acceleration - How Can It Help My Child?

    Grab your favorite morning beverage to recharge or relax, and  join the IAGC for a Virtual  Parent Coffee.

    Join IAGC Board Member and Assistant Superintendent Tara Kristoff  to learn about the advantages of Acceleration and the variety of ways it can be implemented.

    There are many ways to support the advanced learning needs of students, including enrichment and extension assignments, accelerated curriculum, mentor and exploration opportunities and gifted program services.  Let's talk about it!

    Designed for classroom teachers and enrichment teachers who serve advanced learners in grades K-8, each module provides practical knowledge and evidence-based strategies to meet the needs of students who achieve and/or have the potential to achieve at high levels. Attendees will gain an understanding of current, equitable and inclusive approaches in the field of gifted education and explore programming/instructional models, classroom structures, and collaborations to support advanced learners. Projects and readings are designed with an eye to applicability/relevance to classroom practice. Classroom teachers, new enrichment/advanced programming teachers, and educators seeking to update their foundational skills and knowledge for developing talents of advanced learners are encouraged to participate.

    Each virtual module includes 4 hours of synchronous and 6 hours of independent learning. A Certificate of Course Completion from IAGC and 30 PD hours will be provided upon completion of all three modules. Instead of Professional Development hours, participants can opt to earn 2 Semester hours from Lindenwood University upon completing module requirements.

    Note: Assignments will be provided and submitted on the Google Classroom platform. All participants are required to have a Google Account and email to participate in this course.

    Overview:

    Module 1: Understanding Advanced Learners (4 hours in-class time + 6 hours independent learning)

    Part 1 - Conceptions of Giftedness (2 hour class + readings and assignments)

    Part 2 - Recognizing and Developing Gifts and Talents (2 hour class + readings and assignments)

      Module 2: Programming, Collaborations and Classroom Structures to Support Growth of Advanced Learners (4 hours in-class time + 6 hours independent learning)

      Part 1 -  Supporting Growth of Advanced Learners Through the MTSS Framework, Assessment, and Professional Learning Communities (2-hour virtual class + readings and assignments)

      Part 2 -  Classroom, Community, and Family Collaborations to Support Advanced Learners (2-hour  virtual class + readings and assignments)

      Module 3: Differentiation and Instructional Strategies for Advanced Learners (4 hours in-class time + 6 hours independent learning)

      Part 1 -  Key Components of Differentiated Instruction for Advanced Learners (2-hour virtual class + readings and assignments)

      Part 2 - Student-Centered Differentiation for Advanced Learners (2-hour  virtual class + readings and assignments)

      Books are available from Amazon or other book sellers.

      All classroom sessions must be attended and readings/assignments completed for module credit. 30 hours of professional development credit is available after satisfactorily completing all of the requirements/assignments for each module.
