The Illinois Association for Gifted Children is
a not-for-profit corporation that was established in 1989 by a small
group of educators who wanted to create a voice within Illinois to
further the opportunities to better understand the educational and
social/emotional needs of gifted individuals. To that end, gifted
educators, parents of gifted children, and other individuals continue
to support the IAGC mission and related goals.
Mission Statement The Illinois Association for Gifted Children is an organization of parents, educators, and others committed to the education and development of children with diverse gifts and talents. We educate, support, and influence those who touch the lives of children and focus our energies to meet the needs of children with gifts and talents in Illinois through: advocacy, standards, and networking.
Ad Hoc
Standards To create and implement gifted education standards and assessments for educators and school/community support staff.
To advocate for the needs of gifted children statewide.
To educate the decision-makers about the needs of gifted
children.
To initiate the application process for scholarships and
coordinate the recognition for scholarship recipients and other
individuals being recognized.
To synthesize and disseminate information and publications.
To provide an annual convention that supports corporation
goals.
Early Childhood
To share pertinent information with parents and educators regarding young gifted children and their education.
Executive
To coordinate the initiatives and operations of the
corporation and present a slate of candidates for elections.
Finance
To oversee the financial operations of the corporation.
Liaisons
To provide a community link through regional offices of
education, universities, and independent and private schools.
To actively solicit, maintain and increase the statewide
membership base among educators, parents and other interested community
members.
To increase the networking opportunities for parents
throughout Illinois.
Policy
To review policies and propose changes to the board of
directors.
To provide statewide opportunities for educators, parents,
and other community members to better understand the needs of the
gifted child.
To provide opportunities and resources to educate others
relative to understanding the social/emotional development of the
gifted individual.
